graph-a-linear-equation-music-video

An educational video made for Algebra students learning how to graph linear equations.

Ohhhh, sometimes... I graph a linear equation, ya.

Y = mx + b, “m” is the slope, “b” is the y-intercept

Oh ya, graph a linear equation, ya

Algebra 1, linear functions, Mr. Rogers’ class, let’s go have some fun.

Straight lines can be so easy, y = mx + b

I have to teach a concept all about lines in slope intercept.

So come along with me, and bring your 83;

This knowledge is going to set you free

y = x + 7; We don’t see an “m” but the slope is 1.

Slope’s increasing 1 over 1. Lines have to rise before they run.

How do we start? What’s the beginning?

Line and y-axis intersection. Let’s look back at the equation.

What do you see? Y-intercept is 7.

Ohhhh, sometimes... I graph a linear equation, ya.

Y = mx + b, “m” is the slope, “b” is the y-intercept

Oh ya, graph a linear equation, ya

Slope’s negative? Line decreases.

Need an example? What if y = -2x + 3 ya,

The graph will show you a line going down.

What happens if it’s not in slope intercept?

Isolate Y because we’re not there yet.

2x - 4y = 16; Subtract 2x, you know the routine

-4y = 16 - 2x; What step’s next?

Divide both sides by -4

Gettin’ close now hope your brain’s not sore

y = 1/2 x - 4; Ya thats the y-intercept,

Slope’s up one over two

Now problem’s finished right on cue

Ohhhh, sometimes... I graph a linear equation, ya.

Y = mx + b, “m” is the slope, “b” is the y-intercept

Oh ya, graph a linear equation, ya

Ya, break it down, just one more thing to get this concept down

Parallel lines have the same slope, but what about perpendicular? Nope!

Slopes of perpendicular lines are opposite reciprocals.

Last thing that you really need to know: horizontal lines have a slope of 0.

Let’s get it!

Let’s get it!

Let’s graph a linear equation.
