Interactive video lesson plan for: An Introduction to David Hume’s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion - A Macat Philoosphy Analysis

Activity overview:

On what basis do people hold religious beliefs? Three characters are created to represent three major positions. Demea argues that God’s existence can be proved through logic, but that this does not reveal anything about God’s nature. Cleanthes says God’s existence can be demonstrated from evidence we find in the world’s design, and from this we can draw conclusions about the character of God. Philo argues that human reason does not have the capacity to draw any conclusions about God’s existence or nature, though he stops short of saying God doesn’t exist. Watch Macat’s short video for a great introduction to David Hume’s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, one of the most important philosophy books ever written.
