Interactive video lesson plan for: Statistics: The Science of Data, on StatsCenter (Ep. 1)

Activity overview:

Welcome to StatsCenter! This fun, educational parody of SportsCenter covers many major topics in the field of statistics, in a sleek and funny sports anchor format. In this intro, we outline what our purpose is: understanding the field of statistics, which is about the study of data and how to interpret it, to create a better understanding of our world. In this case, the amazing sports world! Also introducing my in-field partner in the game, Jordan Cohen, who attempts to share his love of sports in a blooper-laden pioneering episode.

Over the course of the series get ready for impersonations of ELEVEN call-in celebrity “guests,” including Stephen Curry, Lebron James, David Beckham, Charles Barkley, John Madden, Mike Tyson, Peyton Manning, Stephen A. Smith, Billy Beane, and Mike Breen!

The topics in our 16-part series are:
Types of Data
Sampling Data
Mean, Median, and Mode
Measures of Spread
Interpreting Data
Conditional Probability and Contingency Tables
Mutually Exclusive Events
Binomial Distributions
Discrete and Continuous Functions
The Normal Distribution

Watch to learn, or watch for fun… because we’re about to change the game, permanently.
