Owen Benda is a 13-year-old 7th grader at Open Window School in Bellevue, east of Seattle. He loves visiting national parks and also enjoys skiing, hiking and reading. The best place he has been to is Australia, where he fed kangaroos, hugged a koala and went into the rain forest. He hopes to go to New Zealand.

Owen will be competing at the national level of the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. Watch the top ten students compete for scholarships totaling $50,000 on the National Geographic Channel on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. The finals will be broadcast later on public television stations. Check local listings.
