# Video lesson plan for: How to Multiply Fractions

## 'After the Race' from Joyce's Dubliners: Summary & Analysis

* Whiteboard required ** This activity is teacher paced

In this lesson, you will learn to multiply fractions quickly and easily. To multiply fractions you multiply across the numerators (the top number of a fraction) and multiply across the denominators (the bottom number). An example I always use to start this off is multiply 1/2 with a 1/2. The numerators multiply to give 1 (1 x1), the denominators multiply to give 4 (2x2). Hence a 1/2 multiplied by a 1/2 is 1/4. What about if you multiply 2/3x1/4? Top number (2x1), bottom number (3x4). So 2/3x1/4 = 2/12.
