Interactive video lesson plan for: The Mountain Lions of Jasper Ridge

Activity overview:

For years, mountain lions have left evidence of their presence in Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. Now it's official: Images captured by remote cameras confirm that the elusive cat is a frequent visitor to the scientific preserve in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains west of the main campus.

In this video, Trevor Hebert, Jasper Ridge GIS and data manager, gives a short tour of the infrared camera network, and Stanford postdocs Steve Litvin and Kye Epps discuss the challenge of conserving mountain lions in the heavily populated San Francisco Bay Area. In 2011, Litvin, Epps and other members of the Stanford Rising Environmental Leaders Network co-authored a report managing mountain lions in Jasper Ridge.
