Interactive video lesson plan for: Percent word problems 6th Grade Math

Activity overview:

Learn how to set and solve percent word problems.
PERCENT WORD PROBLEMS
We use the proportion
Part/ Total = %/100
to solve a word problem involving percent.

You should ALWAYS have 3 numbers in your proportion and 1 variable (the unknown).
You'll use PART/TOTAL when you have these type of longer word problems.

If the problems have very few words you can use is of, but there is ALWAYS an IS and an OF in them.
In the video, I work the following percent word problems.

Rob installed 45 light bulbs, which was 45 % of the total job. How many light bulbs will he install when he is finished?

At McClure HS, 70 % of the total school population of 800 liked pop music. How many students liked pop music?

At the football game, 6 of the 30 students wore red hoodies. What percent of the students wore hoodies?
