Stanford University held its 118th Commencement exercises on June 14, 2009. Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and Stanford alumnus, gave the keynote address. In his address, Justice Kennedy urged graduates to spread freedom and law throughout the world.
The 2009 Commencement featured the conferring of 1,735 bachelor's degrees, 2,039 master's degrees and 925 doctoral degrees.
