# Interactive video lesson plan for: Quadratics Switching from Vertex form to Standard Form

Step by step directions for switching from standard form of a quadratic equation to standard form. The video works several example problems.

Welcome to MooMooMath Today we are going to be working on quadratics and switching from vertex form to standard form. OK standard form has a nice,easy quadratic equation. We have a times x-h squared + k where hk is our vertex of our quadratic. In this case it is 5 negative 12,so that's the vertex of our quadratic. It is in vertex form. To switch it to standard we are going to have to apply some algebra skills.so what I'm going to do is write out two of the perfect squares and I know I have an x minus 5 and a x minus 5 and then minus 12 I'm going to work on this middle part first and foil it out. x times x is x squared,outer negative 5x,inner 5x and last is positive 25 all in parenthesis.I have a coefficient two that I have to deal with. Now by the order of operations I have to distribute the 2. Two times x squared is 2x squared and then 2 times negative 5,and right here I can combine the like terms and take 2 times negative 10 and get negative 20x,and then 2 times 25 is 50,all in parenthesis minus 12 but I don't need the parenthesis, because once you are finished distributing you don't need the parenthesis anymore.Now I will just have 20x squared minus 20x plus 50 minus 12 The last thing I have to do is combine the 50 and the 12.
So let's bring over 2x squared minus 20x and 50 minus 12 is positive 38 and that is my quadratic and let's write it as a quadratic and put our f of x at the front and here is our quadratic in standard form which is ax squared plus bx plus c, so a is 2,b is 20,and c is positive 28. So there you go,that's how you convert from vertex form to standard form.
