In academia, we believe and hope that better evidence and research will help shape better policy outcomes. But policy-making is conducted in a political setting and all kinds of information enters the process, with varying results.
Panelists at this Nov. 2016 Education Policy Networking Series Event assessed the current state of the use of research in education policy-making.
* Dr. Paul Lingenfelter, former President of the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO), discussed highlights of his new book "Proof," Policy and Practice: Understanding the Role of Evidence in Improving Education"
* Dr. Katy Anthes, a School of Public Affairs M.P.A. and Ph.D. alum, commented on Dr. Lingenfelter’s ideas given her current role as Interim Commissioner of Education for the State of Colorado and her own SPA doctoral dissertation that focused on the use of evidence by state education policy-makers.
