Various words and slang terms related to money often derive from the appearance and features of banknotes or coins, their values, historical associations or the units of currency concerned. I find very little about money to be interesting, other than counting my own, but there’s a rich fund of vocabulary for money which you will learn in this lesson.
Readies – Money usually banknotes that you can spend immediately. This slang term is simply derived from the expression ready cash.
Spare/Loose change - coins of low value
Hard Cash – Money in the form of coins and notes, rather than cheques or credit cards
E-Cash – Money that exists in electronic form and is used to pay for things over the internet
ATM – Automatic Teller Machine used for withdrawing money. Another slang term for ATM is a Hole in the Wall.
Counterfeit - Fake money made in order to deceive
Singles – One dollar bills
Fivers – Five dollar bills
Tenners – Ten dollar bills
Grand/ K - A thousand ($1000, Rs 1000)
Bucks – Slang terms for money
