The Wirth Chair in Sustainable Development at the School of Public Affairs is offering a Maymester course in 2016 titled, “Energy and Sustainability in Denmark.” Students will travel to Copenhagen, Samsoe Island, and Arhus, to explore Danish solutions to sustainability issues. Students will learn about sustainable development, gain a basic understanding of global energy, and see innovation firsthand at sites like Kalundborg Symbiosis, where various industrial facilities work together to use the waste products from one process for the benefit of others, and Samsoe Island, where 100% of electricity and about 70% of heat comes from renewable sources. This course is cross-listed with the Business School and eligible for credit toward the CLAS Sustainability Minor.
