I start out with a mini-review of exponents and then we study the order of operations (PEMDAS rule), followed by a few solved examples.
PEMDAS (or Please Excuse My Dear Ant Sally) comes from:
Exponents & roots
Multiplication & Division
Addition & Subtraction
I solve these examples using the correct order of operations:
10^2 - 8^2
(10 - 8)^2 - notice this is very similar to the expression above but the parenthesis makes a big difference
24 - 2^3 / 4
In the second part (at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXijeKvwvZ0 ) we will look at more challenging examples with more operations to solve.
