# Interactive video lesson plan for:

#### Activity overview:

In this video, you will learn how to solve one step equations that contain fractions.
In these three examples, you will be adding and subtracting the fractions in order to solve the one step equation.
Hello, welcome to MooMooMath where we upload a new Math video or study skill video each day. In this video, I would like to solve one step equations that include fractions.
Let's get started. In order to solve the one step equation, we need to get p by itself. In order to do that we can subtract 5 1/2 from each side. However, first I would like to convert the mixed fraction to an improper fraction.
2 times 5 = 10 plus equals 11 and I will convert 6 into a fraction by converting it to 6 over 1
Next, I will subtract 11/2 from each side. What I complete to one side I need to perform to both sides. These cancel and we are left with p = 6/1 minus 11/2
When you subtract fractions you need to find a common denominator, which is 2.
One goes into 2 two times so you are left with 12/2 minus 11/2 which equals 1/2, which is our answer.
In summary, I first converted the mixed fraction into an improper fraction.
I isolated the p by subtracting 11/2 from both sides.
I found a common denominator which was 2 and I subtracted the two fractions for the solution of 1/2
In order to get started I will convert 1 and 1/2 into an improper fraction of 3/2
Now in order to isolate the m I will need to add 3/2 to both sides.
I'm left with 3/2 -3/2 m = 3/4 plus 3/2
These cancel and I'm left with m = 3/4 plus 3/2
I will find a common denominator, and I'm left with -5/4 plus 6/4 which equals 1/4
Finally lets move to our last problem
9 1/3 = -5/3n
I will convert the mixed fraction into an improper fraction
91/3 will become 28/3
I will subtract 28/3 from both sides.
I have a common denominator so I subtract 28 minus 5 and I'm left with 23 over 3 = n
That fraction will convert to 7 and 2/3
