Interactive video lesson plan for: Chromosomes and sister chromatids

Activity overview:

What is a chromosome?
Humans have 23 pairs of these structures, a dog has 78 total, but what is a chromosome.
A chromosome is created when DNA coils around a histone protein.
Inside each cell is a strand of DNA which is found in the nuclues.
This strand of DNA is very long. In fact if you stretched this strand of DNA out it would be 5 feet in lenggth.
The cell cretes a chromosome in order to fit this chromosome into the nuclues.
A chromosome consists of two sister chromatids joined togeter by a centromere.
The main job of the centromere is to serve as a place of attachment for spindle fibers during cell division.
In addition to the sister chromatids, you also have homologous chromosomes. You get one homologous chromosome from mom and one from dad. They have the same genes, but different allies.
