In this video you will learn how to solve one step equations containing fractions.

Welcome to MooMooMath were we upload a new Math video everyday

In this video I would like work one step equations that involve fractions.

Lets go ahead and jump right in.

Problem 1 2/7x = 3/4

Step one is to isolate the variable.

In order to isolate the variable we can divide by 2/7

We will divide 2/7 by 2/7 and we know that whatever we do to one side of the equation we must complete on the other side.

We now have 2/4 divided by 2/7 on the other side.

The 2/7 will cancel and we are left with x = 3/4 divided by 2/7

A trick we can use with dividing fractions is Keep Change Flip

I will the first fraction,change the sign, and flip the last fraction.

I now just multiply across 3 x 7 = 21, and 4 x 2 = 8

If you would like you can convert this to a mixed fraction we can take 21 and divide by 8

8 will go into 21 2 times and that leaves us with 5/8 leftover which equals 2 5/8

Problem 2 We have x divided by 3/8 = 1 1/4

Step 1 Is to get x by itself, and in order to undo the multiplication we will divide by 1 3/8

We are left with x = 11/4 divided by 13/8

These will cancel so we are left with x = 1 1/4 x 1 3/8

In order to make this mixed fraction easier to work with I will convert it to an improper fraction.

4 x 1 = 4 + 1 = 5 over 4 and 8 x 1 = 8 + 3 = 11 /8

Now I can just multiply straight across.

5 x 11 = 55 and 4 x 8 = 32

I can now convert it to a mixed fraction by dividing 55 by 32 which equals 1 and 55 - 32 = 23 over 32

So there is your answer to that one step equation.

Finally problem 3.

3/5x = 6

I need to get the x by itself.

I now that when the fraction is sitting right next to the x it indicates multiplication.

In order to undo multiplication I will divide by 3/5

One I complete to one side I must complete on the other.

6 divided by 3/5

These 3/5 cancel and x = 6 divided by 3/5

I will use keep change flip

6/1 change the sign and flip 3/5 to 5/3

I now just multiply straight across, and 6 x 5 = 30

1 x 3 = 3

30 divided by 3 = 10
