Interactive video lesson plan for: Community Keynotes: Managing Stress

Activity overview:

How do some students reduce their stress levels and improve their focus and performance? They practice mindfulness. Tara Brach, Ph.D., a nationally recognized mindfulness teacher and author of Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha and True Refuge: Finding Peace & Freedom in Your Own Awakened Heart, discusses how practicing mindfulness can help improve a student’s ability to respond to events and circumstances with clarity and balance. They also present scientific evidence that supports the benefits of mindfulness. [This program was produced in partnership with MINDS and the Josh Anderson Foundation and recorded at Woodson High School (FCPS)].
We invite students, teachers, and communities to join in a national conversation on mindfulness in education via Twitter. The chat will begin during the November 10, 7 p.m. (ET) broadcast and will continue until 7:45 p.m. (ET). We will discuss issues related to mindfulness, including: can mindfulness relieve stress; does practicing mindfulness help improve your ability to respond to events; is there scientific evidence supporting the benefits of mindfulness; and more. Join in the discussion by using the hashtag #mindfulness.
