This course addresses the delicate art of conversations between educational leaders and teachers. Instructional leaders learn how to collaborate with teachers to meet their state and local education objectives and to improve overall student achievement. Leaders will learn to replace an ineffective supervisory model with a new model of strategic conversations designed to help them quickly assess and understand the primary needs of their staff, helping teachers make connections between their instructional techniques and student performance. Leaders also learn how to conduct walkthroughs and classroom observations, and to collect and evaluate data. From this data analysis, leaders are then able to objectively evaluate the will and skill level of teachers and begin the process of identifying and conducting appropriate strategic conversations. With guests performing the roles of teachers, Dr. Jackson models each conversational type.
