Rational exponents examples answers | Simplifying rational exponents
In earlier classes students have learnt about the laws of
exponents for whole numbers and positive integers. The
laws shall be now extended to the set of rational numbers
where they shall be called radical powers, teacher shall
introduce the term "radical". In examples the students
shall use their previous knowledge of laws of exponents.Chart for law of exponents.
00:02 Q3. Simplify :
00:40 (i)2^(2/3) * 2^(1/5)
00:49 Product of exponentials with same base
This law of exponent states if we take the product of two exponentials with the same base, we simply add the exponents.
01:30 Addition of fractions 2/3 and 1/5.
02:50 (ii) (1 / (3^3))^7
03:14 Quotient of exponentials with same base
This law of exponent states if we take the quotient of two exponentials with the same base, we simply subtract the exponents.+
04:07 Apply law of exponent:Power of power
04:41 Apply law of exponent:changing sign of exponent
changing the sign of a exponent gives the reciprocal.
04:59 (iii) 11^(1/2) / 11^(1/4)
05:17 Apply law of exponent : Quotient of exponentials with same base
If we take the quotient of two exponentials with the same base, we simply subtract the exponents.
05:37 Subtraction of fractions.
07:00 (iv) 7^(1/2) * 8^(1/2)
07:16 Apply law of exponent : Power of a product
If we distribute the exponent over the different factors, we take the power of a product.
