Specific Objective:

• To understand the condition for consistency of a pair of linear equations.

• To understand the condition of inconsistency of a pair of linear equations.

Description: In this task students will find the ratio of coefficients of the variables and ratio of

constant terms. They will represent the given pair of linear equation graphically and will

comment upon the consistency and inconsistency of linear equations.

Execution: Worksheets will be distributed to the students and they will solve the questions as

directed in the worksheet. They will comment upon consistency and inconsistency of the given

equation. Teacher will take a follow up session in which the questions will be discussed.

Parameters for Assessment:

. Able to find a1/a2, b1/b2 and c1/c2.

. Able to relate the above ratio.

. Able to represent the pair of linear equations graphically.

. Able to comment upon the consistency and inconsistency of pair of linear equations.

To understand the Algebraic interpretation of graphical representation i.e. intersecting lines implies unique solution, coinciding lines implies infinite solution and parallel lines implies no solution.

Description: In this video students will learn to relate graphical solutions and their algebraic

interpretation.

Execution: Teacher will find and plot the ordered pairs on the graph paper. Students will be asked to plot a pair of linear equation in two variables on the same Cartesian plane. They will find the graphical solution and will relate it to their algebraic interpretation.

cost Rs 46. Find the cost of one pencil and that of one pen.

09:18 Synthesis of information in given word problem.

09:50 Framing equations using given condition.

10:43 Algebraical representation of given condition

11:07 how to graph a linear equation in two variables

12:50 14:32 find at least 2 ordered pairs of the system of linear equation

14:51 make a table of ordered pairs (x,y) satisfying the given linear equation in two variables.

15:05 plot the ordered pairs on the graph paper

16:10 plot a pair of linear equation in two variables on the same Cartesian plane

16:48 read the point of intersection of the two lines and thus find the solution of pair of linear equations graphically.

Pair of linear equations in two variables is a unit in which both algebra and coordinate

geometry shares equal role Using algebra, a real life problem can be translated into abstract

expression involving coefficients and variables. The algebraic problems can be solved either

using coordinate geometry (graph of linear equations) or through pure algebraic approach.
