In this video you will learn how to find the surface area of a rectangular pyramid.
Hello welcome to MooMoMath where we upload a new Math video everyday. In this video I would like to talk about finding the surface area of a rectangular pyramid. The process is going to be, and you can see this in this version. You find the lateral area which is the area around the sides, and add that to the base area. Actually, if you look at the folded down version you will first calculate the lateral area, which is this area, this triangle, this triangle, which equals the lateral area, and add that to the base area. So that equals lateral area plus base area. The formula for lateral area is 1/2 the perimeter times the slant height. For the base, since it is a rectangle I will use length times width.
Let's get started. First calculate the lateral area on this pyramid if this side is 10 the other side will be 10, and if this side is 5 the far side will be 5.
I will take 10 + 10 +5 + 5 and multiply by 9 which is the slant height.
It is the length right here.
10 + 10 =20 + 5 +5 = 1/2 times 30 times 9 which equals 15 x 9 = 135 which is the lateral area which is this area.
Now all I have to do is calculate the base area and that will be 10 x 5 and that equals 50 and that equals the base area and here is the base area. Again here is the base area. Now 135 plus 50 equals 185 units squared, because surface area is always squared. Hope that helps with the surface area of a rectangular pyramid, and MooMooMath uploads a new Math video everyday.
