___________

Total War: Attila is a standalone game that expands on the gameplay foundation of the most recent Rome release by throwing players into a unique period of Roman history: the time of the Western empire's decline and fall. Unlike most civilization building games where power only builds over time, the Attila expansion (when played for the Roman campaign) asks the player to deal with shrinking resources and vanishing technologies. This interesting twist on the standard formula, however, was implemented without foresight and winds up committing a cardinal sin of game design: it can cause the player to lose the game for reasons beyond their knowledge or control.
