In this 1st grade addition lesson, Mathy (my mascot) and I study the pattern in sums with 7 - two numbers that add up to 7:
7 + 0
6 + 1
5 + 2
4 + 3
... and the other way around.
These are also called NUMBER BONDS.
This will help children learn their addition facts within 10.
Then I drill these sums with the viewers using missing number additions. Your child can try to answer my drill questions as far as he/she can!
We also solve some simple addition problems, a word problem, and an interesting puzzle that has many solutions.
Check out also the 1st grade workbook Math Mammoth Addition 1 at http://www.mathmammoth.com/addition_1.php - it contains the same idea as you see in the video (for sums with 7, plus it has lessons for sums with 6, 8, 9, and 10 also). Download the free samples today!
