YouTube has a very strange and entirely secret way of calculating how much its creators get paid. I do not know how much I am owed, and just have to take Google's word for it that I'm getting the right amount.
Although one could argue that I am not technically an employee of YouTube, I would say that it has many of the responsibilities as an employer since it is so very similar to being the employer of its creators. Many thousands of people now make a living through it, and YouTube holds the power to take those livelihoods away, which makes it strongly akin to an employer.
