Interactive video lesson plan for: Fractions-Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

Activity overview:

How to multiply and divide fractions.
Learn to multiply and divide fractions.
When multiplying fractions you simply multiply the numerator and denominators., and then simplify if possible.
When dividing fractions you keep, change, and flip and then follow the rules for multiplying fractions.
When you keep, change, and flip it allows you to multiply the fraction by it's reciprocal.

Welcome to MoomooMath and multiplying and dividing fractions. I find it easier multiplying and dividing fractions than adding and subtracting fractions.
When multiplying fractions you just multiply the numerators and the denominators, and then simplify the fraction.
When you divide you keep, change, and flip, and then follow the rules of multiplication and simplify if you can.
Lets look at some examples in order to get an idea as to how to multiply and divide fractions.
In this first one you have 1/2 x 5/4 multiply 1 x 5 = 5 and 2 x 4 = 8 and if you can you can simplify.
In this next problem you have 2 x 11 over 3 x 6
2 x 11 = 22 and 3 x 6 = 18 Now I know I can simplify by dividing each number by 2
22 divided by 2 = 11and 18 divided by 2 = 9 and at this point it is simplified.
Lets solve one more multiplication problem.
3/2 times 4/9 3 times 4 = 12 over 2 times 9 = 18
I can simplify by dividing by 2 and also divisible by 6 so 12 divided by 6 = 2 and 18 divided by 6 = 3 so it becomes 2/3
Now lets look at some division.
The first thing we do is keep change and flip.
We keep the first fraction, change the sign, and flip the second fraction.
Now we just multiply. 1 x 6 = 6 over 4 x 2 so you get 6/8 and I can simplify by dividing by 2 which equals 3/4
Lets solve the last example
3/2 divided by 4/9
First we need to keep, change, and flip
9 x 3 = 27 and 2 x 4 = 8 and we cannot simplify further.
