Interactive video lesson plan for: From Woman Warrior to Book of Peace: 2014 Anne and Loren Kieve Distinguished Speaker Lecture

Activity overview:

Stanford Professor of English Paula Moya moderates the 2014 Kieve Distinguished Speaker Lecture given by Maxine Hong Kingston http://www.nationalbook.org/amerletters_2008_kingston.html#.V9nAJPkrIrh, senior lecturer for creative writing at the University of California at Berkeley. The award-winning author shares stories about the human conditions of war, when race and ethnicity determine which side we are on and what becomes of us. She says, "Thinking about my own race and ethnicity, I see that sometimes I'm a minority, and sometimes I'm in the majority. At once, I am the model minority—a tiger mother, teacher, writer—and I am a member of the largest race on earth." During this annual lecture made possible by the Anne and Loren Kieve Distinguished Speaker Fund, CCSRE brings leading scholars, public intellectuals, and artists to address the Stanford community on vital issues relating to race and ethnicity. The event took place on May 9, 2014 at the Munger Conference Center, Stanford University.
