Interactive video lesson plan for: Capital Physics goes to the heart of A-level physics in London

Activity overview:

The Capital Physics Project is a programme of bespoke in-school training for teachers of A-level physics in London state schools: http://www.iop.org/education/teacher/support/capital_physics/page_63685.html

Six coaches, highly experienced both in physics teaching and in training other teachers, have each been offering twilight training sessions in ten London state schools since September 2014. Teachers report considerable gains in confidence and improvements to student retention and attainment are already evident. The support is provided at no cost to the schools and is tailored to the teachers’ needs and contexts, where, in many cases, the A-level physics teacher is working alone in his or her school. One larger additional session, held each term, enables teachers from each cluster of ten schools to meet, discuss and – crucially – share expertise. The diverse areas addressed have included new practical skills, more engaging ways to teach specific topics, and strengthening of gaps in subject knowledge.
